back in time | wedding

I am happy that I can show you now the wedding of these two wonderful souls. You may have already seen their e.session over a year ago. When I met these two for the first time I was amazed how they relate to each other. When seeing them together you just know that they are meant to be. Tender kisses, sweet touches and the many glances the throw at each other are the evidence. As first I was only hired to shoot their e.session I was then really happy and blessed to agree shooting their wedding. It happened to be also the last shooting I did before my maternity leave. I can’t believe that the time went by so fast. Yesterday we celebrated Ryans 6 month Birthday already!

the date | wedding

Recently I had the ultimate pleasure to shoot the wedding of this marvelous couple. I had so much fun joining them during their special day and document it for them. It was certainly an honor on my side to be the one chosen to take all the happy pictures . I meet a lot of people and couples, but although I believe all my couples are deeply in love with each other and are perfect matches, it happens only very rarely that I feel such a strong, undoubted connection between two people as with those two. They seem so unbelievable happy to have found each other and enjoy themselves that it’s almost kitschy… But love stories can’t be too beautiful right?

precious moment | private

Sometimes in the morning when I turn around my chair I see this… and it let my heart dance and sing with joy. How precious is he, how lucky am I.

baptism | private

I am currently planning Ryans baptism and I love it. I almost forgot how fun it is to organize such a special event. Define a color scheme, find little things to decorate, define the food and all the other fun stuff are just waiting to be done. I just finished the invites and I absolutely adore how they turned out. I would like to share with you the design of the cards…

why is wedding photography an investment? | weddings

Once your wedding is over, you want to relive the magic of the day, treasure the special moments of the day, SEE the memories you made. To once again experience how stunning you looked in that dress or how sexy your man looked in his suit. To get another look at all the carefully planned details of your reception and how great the cake looked and tasted. To remember when your family and friends got crazy on the dance floor. To remember what if felt like dancing together for the first time as husband and wife to your song, which will make your heart flutter for the rest of your life whenever you hear it.

But sadly, mental memories are not permanent. You could try to describe your wedding to those who weren’t there, including your children someday. But no words could ever do it justice. This is why you have to think of wedding photography as an investment. One you don’t always know is worth making until after it’s too late. You can always find a photographer to fit your budget. But the more important thing is to find one that fits your vision and style.

Many people question why photographers charge so much for the digital files on a disc. But there is a real reason for our practices, they aren’t to hurt you as a customer, but to help you, and to ensure we receive what is due to us for our hard work. People tend to forget that photographers need to make a profit, or else they wouldn’t do it. It’s a business. We all work to make money, right? Yes we are lucky to have found something we love to do that we can make money doing…but does that make it any less important to be able to provide for ourselves and our families? :) Photography is our business. We have real business expenses as expensive equipment, expensive software, expensive maintenance fees for sites, gallery platforms, accountants, sample products, expensive workshops to learn even more and bring clients even better work. Plus all the boring stuff like utilities of the office/studio, etc.

Before digital, people bought prints, but now people want digital files. And photographers will usually sell them to you, but for a price….and for good reasons. We can’t just give art away for free. Would you? Look at it this way, a typical wedding lasts 6-9 hours of shooting some even 13. Then after that, processing the images and getting them ready for viewing ranges around 60 hours. Add on to that the cost of doing business. The cost of time. The cost of something that should be considered ART.

Another thing I would like you to know and think about is, ifolor, snapfish, migros, coop, colormailer… all those popular retailers that offer print services – their printquality is sub-par. I’ve done print tests, and there truly is a difference between those and the professional lab I use. Photographers calibrate their monitors to those printers, which is why our colors our true on our prints and most likely won’t be when you print at those labs. When I release my files, I run the risk of having my name attached to work that I am not proud of because the skin tones might be too orange or a sepia tone might be cringe-worthy. By allowing clients to print whatever they want. To actually have the files, we are allowing clients to change a picture from the way we, as artists, intended it, by printing it on less-than-good printers. It’d be like buying a painting and then painting over it in parts. Photographers have no quality-control once the disc is in the client’s hands. And we really want to give that to you, so you are completely happy with the services I provide you.

Not to mention the fact that people are stealing our images all over the internet like nobody’s business! My images can be found on another “photographer’s” website claiming to be theirs. Most photographers will relinquish that control. But again…for a price.
